The classic exterior lines of Fleming yachts aren’t just for show. Their signature low profile allows for safe, effortless boarding while providing a low center of gravity for unmatched stability. Each Fleming model has the mainstay wide, walk-around decks, which combine with high bulwarks and a Portuguese bridge to provide security for children and pets. All Flemings are semi-displacement boats constructed with a hand-laid hull of solid fiberglass reinforced with a grid of stringers and frames. Vinylester resin is above and below the hull’s waterline, with further protection provided by epoxy barrier coats.
A reasonable 5-foot draft allows for cruising the Bahamas and intercoastal areas while protecting the running gear under a full-length keel. The keel is foam-filled and glassed across the top to isolate it from the hull. It provides nearly a foot of protection below the running gear in case of accidental grounding, which is an essential feature for any serious cruising yacht when underway.
With a generous flared bow, a Fleming’s fine entry forward provides a soft entry and highly comfortable ride. The semi-displacement hull design allows the vessel to cruise efficiently at long ranges and displacement speeds. It also means you can pick up the pace and cruise in the upper teens, if needed, to avoid bad weather or escape nightfall. These speeds are achievable in part due to the twin MAN or Cummins common-rail diesel engines now standard in every Fleming Yacht — some older models previously utilized Cat® engines.
