Burr Yacht Sales, the premier East Coast Fleming dealer since 1991, has proudly sold, outfitted, and delivered over 250 new Fleming Yachts – representing approximately 60% of all Fleming production. We offer two world-class facilities that each feature in-water showrooms where you can step aboard numerous Flemings ranging in vintages and sizes. This setup is designed to introduce and educate you on the full range of the Fleming line-up and highlight the distinct advantages of choosing Burr Yacht Sales. Once you decide to build a new Fleming Yacht, selecting the model size and general specifications is just the beginning. From the initial discussion, to the final delivery and beyond into ownership, BYS is committed to guiding you through every step of way while aiming to create an engaging and transparent build process for the Fleming Yacht of your dreams.
The construction of your Fleming Yacht begins at the renowned Tung Hwa Industrial Company in Taiwan, starting with the hull layup and its components. Throughout the build, we’ll work closely with you to choose layouts, cabinetry configurations, engines, systems, and other custom features that perfectly match your cruising preferences. As the build progresses and options are selected, we maintain continuous communication with Fleming Yachts in Taiwan, providing you with weekly updates and photos of your boat at the yard.
Given the construction timeline—typically ranging from nine to 24 months depending on the model—your yacht’s navigation and audio-video systems are ordered just before it arrives in the States. This strategy ensures that your yacht is equipped with the latest technology and electronics, tailored specifically to your needs. Additionally, installing these systems closer to delivery can positively impact their warranty period. During the construction phase, we also assist you in selecting the custom décor and other items, ensuring everything is ready for outfitting upon arrival.
After completion of the hull, your Fleming then begins its journey from Taiwan to the Chesapeake aboard a cargo ship. During transit, it is completely safeguarded with protective tape covering virtually every exterior surface, including all glass windows and stainless steel rails. Upon arrival at port, it is met by a dedicated team from Burr Yacht Sales and prepared for launch. Once paperwork has been completed, and the team has visually inspected the boat, performed an extensive systems’ check, and connected the batteries, your Fleming is ready to be hoisted by the gantry crane and lowered into the water. This will be the first time your boat has touched the water since sea trials in Taiwan. In the case of the Fleming 55, it will be the first time it has ever been in the water.
Once it arrives at our Burr Yacht Sales facility in Maryland, also known as BYS North, the outfitting process will begin on your new Fleming. The systems and options selected during your expert consultation will be waiting at our marina, along with any custom décor elements that are able to be ordered prior to arrival. Over the course of the next eight to 12 weeks, our team will transform the already impressive Fleming into one of the most elegantly equipped yachts on the water.
After carefully removing the protective tape and thoroughly washing the exterior, we begin with the installation of the flybridge windshield and the custom carbon fiber hinged radar mast. Given the increasing popularity and advancements in solar panel technology, most of our Fleming hardtops are now installed in Taiwan with the solar panels equipped and integrated at the factory. Of course, the option of a Bimini top on your Fleming is always available.
We then move inside and ensure all of the interior countertops and bullnose surfaces are protected with cardboard, tape, and foam covers. The teak and holly floors are similarly shielded to prevent any damage during the installation phase. The navigation electronics and systems you selected begin filling out the flybridge and pilothouse consoles as displays and instruments are cut in, wired, and tested. Antennas, open arrays, domes, GPS receivers, spotlights, cameras, and other instruments are fixed to the hardtop, arch, and mast, with wires ran throughout the boat. Audio/video equipment – televisions, speakers, sound bars, etc. – are installed, mounted, and connected in the salon, the staterooms, and throughout the rest of the vessel.
The tender is fine-tuned, secured to the custom-mounted tender chocks, and then fitted with a canvas cover. Measurements are taken for additional canvas covers and enclosures, which are then created, and applied. Essential safety gear, including an EPIRB, Switlik life raft, and fire extinguishers are installed. Rod holders in the cockpit combing boards are drilled out and fitted. As all these tasks and others unfold, your teak caprails are sealed with 16 coats of Bristol finish or your fiberglass caprails are custom fit for vinyl teak wrap application.
Your Fleming is now ready to be taken out for a final sea trial which will ensure that all of its sophisticated systems are calibrated and properly interfaced. The final touch involves implementing and installing the custom décor you selected for your personalized Fleming, and a full interior and exterior detailing. The Fleming of your dreams is now a reality!
The day you’ve eagerly awaited has finally arrived—delivery day! It has been well over a year since the hull of your Fleming first emerged from drums of resin and countless yards of fiberglass.
