Tailored Fleming Training

BURR UNIVERSITY

Take The Helm With Confidence

Our comprehensive Fleming training program comes complimentary with any new or used Fleming Yacht purchased directly from Burr Yacht Sales. Commonly referred to as “Burr University” by our customers, this hands-on program is designed to fully educate and familiarize you with your Fleming Yacht. From extensive instruction on the ship’s onboard systems to comprehensive dock handling lessons and actual hands-on cruising time with our team of licensed captains, this training program covers it all.

Our training is tailored to the specific Fleming Yacht and will cover any unique features, equipment, or nuances that the hull may present. It is also customized to the individual, with a seasoned boater or previous Fleming owner perhaps desiring less training and a shorter time frame. However, for the novice boater or someone moving up from a smaller vessel or sailing background, more training involvement may be necessary. Our ultimate goal is to instill the knowledge and confidence you need to safely operate your Fleming with unfailing self-assurance.

Our Fleming Training Syllabus

The following is a general outline and procedure of our after sales training. A more detailed training syllabus is provided when you purchase a new or used Fleming yacht from Burr Yacht Sales.

An in-depth review of heads, showers, holding tanks, and water systems of the vessel. We then cover operation of the boat’s air conditioning, washer/dryer, and all audio/video entertainment systems onboard.

Starting with a general discussion of power basics and associated terms, we then delve into the specific AC and DC systems. Covering generators, inverters, breaker panels, battery banks & configurations, alarms, and more.

We start with the basic start and stop procedures while reviewing engine displays and gauges, then move to the controls and transfer between stations. A demonstration of the back-up engine controls is also performed.

Moving below deck, we perform a full review of the engines and their associated systems. This includes the fuel management system, transmissions, engine cooling, oil change system, and more. We also dive into common maintenance and devise a straightforward engine room check routine.

Beyond the main engines, we spend plenty of time acquainting with the variety of other components within the engine room, lazarette, and beyond. Including: the stabilizers, fire system, shafts, steering, thrusters, air conditioning system, water maker, water pumps, and much more. With so many technical components, this overview is often broken up in smaller sections throughout the training program.

Covers the three main categories of focus when preparing to leave the dock: Shore Power, Electronics, and Engines. We devise a proper step-by-step process to follow and practice it multiple times.

We review and practice dock line removal, plans of departure from different types of slips, reading and adapting to wind or current, and proper communication.

A large amount of time is invested in handling and docking practice. We teach specific handling techniques to apply in a variety of scenarios and then try to replicate those situations. We insist that both spousal owners learn to handle and dock their Fleming yacht in case of emergencies. Often the less-inclined partner discovers how simple the Fleming can be to maneuver and begins to favor the task!

We walkthrough windlass operation, maneuvering to anchor, dropping, raising, using a mooring, and more – all with real hands-on practice.

Covering davit operation, tender lifting procedures, tender use, and other tips for the entire process – all of which are taught with hands-on reps.

An overview of emergency protocols, fire extinguisher locations, fire systems, life raft deployment, EPIRBs, flares, and more.

An overview of general maintenance and care for your Fleming yacht.

Become comfortable with the navigation electronics and radar system equipped aboard your Fleming yacht.

We will accompany you for an initial cruise to a local destination in the area. We go through the entire process together of preparing the boat to leave, plotting a route, untying lines, and cruising. We will review topics underway such as using the autopilot, VHF radio, radar, and more.
